How to Ramp Up Efficiency and Drive Down Client Bills

To stay competitive, firms need to be efficient in their delivery of legal services. Here are some strategies firms can use to increase their efficiency while meeting client demands for lower bills:
Push work down to the cheapest provider.
On every matter, a firm should strive to identify the tasks that can be assigned to the lowest-cost attorney, or to a paralegal or legal assistant who can handle the work competently, according to Overton Thompson III, a partner at Bass Berry & Sims PLC.
“A firm should never sacrifice quality, but often matters can be handled by a person with a lower billable rate, thus keeping down the size of the overall bill to the client,” Thompson said.
